God's Finger on Government - School Choice

Thousands of people flocked to Asbury University in Kentucky to witness and take part in a spontaneous revival. It is refreshing to me to see an awakening for the need for God.

Our founding fathers recognized the importance of having the “finger of God” guide their every step as they crafted our Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States. As John Quincy Adams said of the Declaration of Independence, “This was the platform upon which the Constitution of the United States had been erected”.

The Declaration of Independence clearly recognizes that our rights come from God. Unalienable rights are God given rights that government should protect and never take away. The statement “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God” are proof that our framers understood absolute truth.

As we know, July 4, 1776 marks the day of the Declaration of Independence however the Constitutional Convention did not begin until May 25, 1787. The first Congress under the Constitution didn’t convene until March 9, 1789. Rhode Island was the last state to ratify the Constitution on May 29th, 1790.

There was much debate and deliberation before the Constitution took its form. Benjamin Franklin, not the most religious framer, proclaimed, “I therefore beg to leave to move- that henceforth prayer imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberation, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service”. Alexander Hamilton gave credit to God by saying: “For my own part, I sincerely esteem a system which, without the finger of God, never could have been suggested and agreed upon by such a diversity of interests”.

For revival to happen in America, we must begin by being self governed. That’s a moral standard based on biblical principles. As self governed people, we will create strong families. With strong families churches will blossom. Then and only then will we rise up Godly people to represent us in civil government.
